It is impossible for me to enter a place without thinking about the history that every corner of that space may hold. From my perspective, the walls, shelves, floors, windows, and paint of the place contain unimaginable experiences and narratives different from what a human being can express.
It was a day like any other, enjoying the view, the spacious areas, and the comfort of my desk with projects to complete. I hear a rumble. I turn to my right, and the following happens: everything shakes, the chair falls, and the lamps keep swaying. I stand up and observe from the window that the tallest buildings seemed to be dancing to a stormy rhythm. I was experiencing an earthquake.
In the midst of the battle between my consciousness and understanding, I concluded that a public space must be prepared for the natural events that every living being confronts.
When choosing a future space where our workers will be protagonists of hours of dedication and effort at work, it is important for companies to consider the possibility of experiencing the natural phenomenon that shakes the earth, the foundations of the place, and also shakes emotions and thoughts.
Hundreds of people in a city, thousands in the country, and millions in the world live at their own pace and style. But, even if the experiences are not the same, the territory on which we found ourselves, we want it to be safe and preventive.
While being able to travel a few minutes from my comfortable home to the workplace is a decisive factor, the world we live in is unpredictable. Therefore, the area where hours will be spent should be located where it reflects the bonds for those who do not want to experience another significant shake.
Although it is impossible to ensure that a place is 100% safe and earthquake-free, the suburban area of Santa Fe in Mexico City has this crucial factor. Being located in the highest part of the valley basin, it has very little seismic impact. Thus, it becomes not only a spectacle of modern architectures but also the space where complexes are destined to successfully withstand a tectonic plate movement.
The best place is not the one that lies in my wildest thoughts but the one that shapes who we are and gives us the freedom to create a new and improved self.
